The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, is inviting applications for the 2025 Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship. This one-year initiative is designed to empower early-career Nigerian journalists by providing them with the training, tools, and mentorship needed to enhance their expertise in investigative journalism, multimedia storytelling, and data-driven reporting.
Named after Adejumobi Adegbite, a respected journalist and former U.S. Consulate Information Specialist who died in July 2023, the fellowship aims to honour his legacy by building a new generation of ethical and impactful reporters.
What the Fellowship Covers
Ten selected fellows will receive:
- Mobile journalism gear
- Direct mentorship from experienced journalists
- Support to publish stories that serve the public interest
Who Can Apply
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be Nigerian journalists with no more than five years’ experience
- Work full-time, part-time, freelance, or as interns in the media
- Reside permanently in Nigeria
- Not have taken part in any U.S. government exchange programme
- Submit two investigative stories published between May 2023 and May 2025
Note: Features, op-eds, or analysis pieces will not be accepted.
Shortlisted applicants must attend:
- An opening session in Lagos
- Two online sessions
- A final session at the end of the programme
