The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the commencement of registration for the 2026 Second Series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, popularly known as WAEC GCE.
Interested candidates should note that the registration fee for the examination is Twenty-Seven Thousand Naira (₦27,000). Further details on the registration process, requirements, and important deadlines are provided below.

WAEC GCE 2026 Second Series Registration
WAEC has set the registration process online for private candidates.
After buying the Registration PIN, each candidates should visit the WAEC GCE registration portal to complete the entry. The process includes biometric features, which WAEC will use to validate candidate at exam centres.
Candidates should read each entry field with care before submission.
WAEC GCE Registration Period
Generation of PIN close on Friday, 31 July 2026.
Candidates should complete biometrics capturing and online registration by 11:59pm on Sunday, 2 August 2026. WAEC expect each candidate to finish the process within two week of first accessing the registration website, as long as that access falls within the registration period.
WAEC GCE Registration Fee and Payment
Candidates should pay Twenty Seven Thousand Naira, N27,000, at branch of listed banks or through accredited agents.
They will receive the Registration PIN and information VCD after payment. Banks & accredited agent will also charge Five Hundred Naira, N500, as commission.

Walk-In Candidates
Candidates who register after the close of entries may still be accepted as “Walk-in-Candidates”.
WAEC requires such candidate to register at least twenty-four hours before the sche duled time of the paper or papers they intend to write. The walk-in fee is Forty-Five Thousand Naira, N45,000.
Candidates With Special Needs
Candidates with special needs will register online like other candidates.
They should clearly state their impairments during registration, such as Visual, Low vision, Spastic, Speech, Hard to hear or any other listed condition. This help WAEC record the right details for the examination process.
Where Candidates Can Register
Candidates can buy their PIN and complete registration at accredited banks cyber cafes, WAEC offices and “WAEC Registration Points” near them.
The process still ends online so candidates should check every detail before upload.
Completion of Registration
All candidates are required to complete their registration within two weeks of first accessing the WAEC registration portal during the registration period.
Before final submission, candidates must carefully verify their personal details, including names, gender, passport photograph, date of birth, and selected subjects. WAEC will not be held responsible for errors in submitted information.
After successful registration, candidates must print their Admission Notice, which will serve as their official identification during the examination.
The Result Checker PIN will also be printed on the Admission Notice.
The approved fingerprint scanner for registration is the UareU DigitalPersona biometric device.
WAEC GCE Exam Mode
The examination will be conducted using a computer-based testing (CBT) format.
Objective papers will be fully CBT-based, while essay and practical tests will follow a hybrid format. Questions will be displayed on-screen, while candidates will provide answers in physical answer booklets.
WAEC may also organize an online mock examination for registered candidates who wish to familiarize themselves with the CBT system. Details of the mock exam will be communicated via SMS, email, and official WAEC social media platforms.
General Information for WAEC GCE Candidates
Candidates are advised to carefully review the following guidelines before registration and examination:
- Registration fees are non-refundable.
- Candidates should regularly check the official website for updates on the examination timetable.
- Entries must include passport photographs captured with a digital camera.
- The recommended camera specification is Microsoft HD 3000.
- Photographs must be high-quality, either black-and-white or color images.
- The required format is JPEG only.
- Photo dimensions must be 275 × 314 pixels at 72 dpi resolution.
- Background of the passport photograph must be plain and contrasting.
- Obstructed or unclear photographs are not allowed and may invalidate registration.
- Candidates should avoid wearing items that obscure facial features.
- Candidates are advised to visit the WAEC Nigeria official website for full details.
- Syllabuses and examination regulations should be downloaded using the registration PIN.
- Candidates must appear in mufti (no uniforms) and must not carry weapons into the exam hall.
- Wearing professional or official uniforms of any kind is prohibited.
- Sitting for the examination in more than one centre will lead to cancellation of results.
- Smoking is strictly prohibited in the examination hall.
- The use of mobile phones or any electronic device in the exam hall will result in disqualification.
- All registration details must be carefully reviewed before submission, as no amendments will be allowed after upload.
- Candidates must bring their original Admission Notice to the examination hall.
- Any form of examination malpractice will result in cancellation of results and possible prosecution.
