2024 UTME: JAMB Releases List of Prohibited Items in Exam Hall

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reiterated its policy that candidates will not be permitted to bring electronic devices into the examination hall for the upcoming 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

JAMB has released a list of prohibited items that will not be permitted inside any of its examination centers for this year’s examination. The items include:

  1. Electronic devices such as:
    1. mobile phones
    2. calculators
    3. wristwatches
    4. recorders
  2. spy reading glasses
  3. cameras
  4. ear piece
  5. bluetooth devices
  6. USB
  7. CD
  8. hard disk and other similar storage devices
  9. pen/biro
  10. smart lenses
  11. books or any reading/writing material
  12. ink/pen readers
  13. key holders
  14. ATM cards
  15. erasers
  16. smart rings/jewelries

2023 JAMB released list of prohibited items bulletin partly states: “to ensure that the board’s examinations meet best global practice, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has prohibited the use of the following items during examinations.

“Candidates are hereby advised not to bring these items close to the examination venue in their best interest. Any breach of this directive would bar the candidates from taking the examination.”

JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin disclosed that some candidates who breached the directive and brought some of the devices to the hall last year were caught and handed over to security agencies.

Instructions on Biometric Verification

1. Candidates will be admitted into the examination center solely through biometric verification. It is imperative to strictly adhere to the guidelines for mandatory biometric verification of each candidate.

2. No Candidate should be kept waiting if he/she cannot be verified. Such a candidate should be recaptured at the center before leaving. ONLY genuine cases will subsequently be treated.

3. There is no other Attendance Register apart from the biometric verification. Biometric verification will also serve as Attendance Register during examinations.

4. Photo Albums will only carry pictures with no marking points for either Present or Absent status.

5. All examination officials, including security agents, are required to enforce strict compliance with all guidelines, rules, and regulations governing the examination.
